Art of living Dijon, the natural capital of taste

The city is proud of its cultural heritage, which is recognised by UNESCO, and is firmly turned towards innovation. Today, the city is a flagship for gastronomy and wine in France and abroad.

In 2021, the International City of Gastronomy and Wine will be opening in Dijon. Its goals will be to highlight the French gastronomic meal and to celebrate the wine Climats of Burgundy, which are both listed by UNESCO as part of World Heritage. The City of Gastronomy will be symbolically located exactly 1 kilometre from the Grand Cru wine route. This dynamic centre should attract a million visitors a year.

The history of Dijon is closely linked with the history of the great Burgundy wines. Until the last third of the 19th century, major wines were made on the slopes of Dijon. There were vineyards in all the city's districts. But vine parasites and urban development put an end to this golden age... Today, the Dijon wine region is enjoying a rebirth. The purchase of the La Cras estate (PDO Burgundy) and the new vines planted in the urban area symbolise the revival of the "Côte de Dijon".

The capital of Bourgundy-Franche-Comté tastes good! And not only the famous specialities like mustard, gingerbread or crème de cassis. Not only the taste of the Michelin-starred restaurants... The city of Dijon also has a taste for gastronomic events. The International and Gastronomic Fair, the Brunch des Halles and the delicious archives in the municipal library make Dijon a natural capital of taste.
